You use the five second test of course! UsabilityHub’s nifty online testing platform (Fivesecondtest) is a great way to test a web page design, layout or wireframes for a new site or email optimised landing page.
All you need to do is upload a screenshot or PDF visual and decide what questions you want to ask and publish your test.
Members of the UsabilityHub community literally have five seconds to study the page and are then asked to answer your questions. It’s a really good way of assessing a user’s instinctive reaction when they land on your home page or email landing page for the first time.
Obviously, you need to make sure your questions are more incisive than ‘do you like the layout?’ To get the most out of the test you need to have a clear idea of what you are testing for, and it can’t be too complex. So you might ask if your call to action button or sign up area is in easy to locate or whether the colour gives it enough standout. All responses are then presented back to you so that you can assess how successful or otherwise your page is.
Go try it! You never know, one or two small tweaks after testing might make a big difference to your site!
